New iPod Revealed: Price Cuts Coming to iPod Line
If Kevin Rose of Digg fame is correct, the new iPod line is on its way and includes a new, tapered-edge, look. If you’re looking for an iPod that’s more aerodynamic, this may be it.
With iPhone pricing currently at $199, one of Rose’s other key “finds” seems to make sense. In order to avoid cannibalization of the entire Apple line of iPods due to the cheaper iPhone pricing, iPod prices are headed south. A current 8 gig version of the iPod Nano costs $299. This price figures to go to $149 or below.
After all, why get just an iPod when you can an iPhone with the same great iPod features AND with the added benefit of phone service. A bit of an oversimplification in that the iPhone is so much more, but you get the idea.
As Thomas Ricker points out on Engadget, though, all of this breaking news needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Rose is the same guy that reported the iPhone would launch with CDMA and GSM support – didn’t happen.
We’ll see if his source is rock-solid in the coming weeks as he is also predicting a major upgrade to iTunes 8.0 and new Apple iPod Touch software. There seems to be supporting evidence that Rose is on to something.
Here’s the video from Kevin Rose where he details the Apple rumors…
