Google Android gPhone in Action: It Is No Apple Iphone - SAI

According to Silicon Alley Insider, the new Google gPhone, with Android software, is no Apple iPhone.

SAI writes, “apparently a hot item to show off in Google’s cafeterias these days — [Googlephone] is big and bulky, and not as sleek as the iPhone. And Android, while extremely powerful, has a less-elegant, less-user-friendly interface.” In that Google is just making the software, we’re not sure how relevant any review of hardware is at this point but this is still one of the first reports of Android in action.

In addition, it has been announced that T-Mobile will be the first to carry the new Android software from Google for its smartphones with an estimated, pre-holiday launch. Another rumor has it that Google is planning an iTunes like App store. We’ll believe it when we see it.

TechCrunch argues that this about a platform war and for Android to take hold its going to need compelling apps. We think its price for basic hardware and services.

It feels as if the Google phone will be powerful but with so many features already built into the iPhone, and a user base created over the past few years from iPod to iTunes to iPhone, it would seem Google phones will be good for Apple haters and IF cell phone providers can provide a significantly lower cost for hardware and monthly fees.
