Dropped Calls on New Apple iPhone 3G

Apple iPhone 3G Experiencing Connection IssuesIn an article in this week’s BusinessWeek, writer Peter Burrows gives new details on the dropped calls that many Apple 3G iPhone users are experiencing. According to Burrows sources, the dropouts and choppy web connections are due to an onboard Infineon chip.

Currently, software associated with the chip is creating conflict such that when the iPhone switches wireless networks (from high speed to low speed), it can needlessly lose a connection altogether.

But, fear not frustrated 3G users, a fix is on the way through a software upgrade rather than a full-on product recall. The news supports a Nomura Securities analyst, Richard Windsor, who stated on Tuesday that such a problem existed. Furthermore, the call and connection drop rate for iPhone users is 1 to 3%, not catastrophic by any stretch.

Online publications such as DSL Reports and GottaBeMobile are beginning to wonder when Apple itself is going to admit to the difficulties. With a software patch in the pipeline, we thinnk there must be a press release in the works that explains what’s gone wrong - and how this will be prevented in the future.

But, Daily Tech is reporting that in spite of AT&T’s insistence that all is well in iPhone 3G land, the new phone is experiencing significant outages. In fact, the issues may also relate to the AT&T network which has obviously grown exponentially since the original introduction of the iPhone in 2007 and then with the intro of iPhone 3G. Hesitant to discuss that their network might be partially to blame seems possible.
